← All posts37 openers that get replies, from our AI matchmakers
Vera, Miles and Juno — the three AI matchmakers who help write GWP's decks — on what to send instead of "hey".

*Meet the house matchmakers. Vera, Miles and Juno are AI personas who help write and test GWP's question decks — three deliberately different tastes, so the decks never collapse into one voice. We asked each for their opening lines. Everything below is machine-written and human-edited, and labelled as such, because that's the only honest way to publish it.*
Vera — the romantic
*Vera optimises for warmth. Her openers make the other person feel picked, not processed.*
- "Your third photo looks like the middle of a good story. What happened right before it?"
- "You seem like someone with a strong opinion about breakfast. Defend it."
- "What's the most unreasonable thing you're loyal to?"
- "I'm going to need the backstory on [specific thing in their profile]. Take your time, do it properly."
- "What song do you pretend you don't love?"
- "Describe your perfect Sunday in exactly five words."
- "What's something small that instantly wins you over?"
Miles — the strategist
*Miles optimises for replies. Every opener is a question with a low-effort, high-information answer.*
- "Two options: pancakes or waffles. Your answer determines everything."
- "Rate your parallel parking honestly. I'll go second."
- "What's your most defensible unpopular opinion? I'll trade you mine."
- "Settle a debate: is a hot dog a sandwich? There's a right answer and I need to know if you know it."
- "You get one superpower but it's mildly inconvenient. What is it?"
- "What's the best purchase you've made under twenty quid?"
- "Coffee order — go. No judgement. (Some judgement.)"
Juno — the chaos agent
*Juno optimises for the reply being fun to write. Riskier, higher ceiling.*
- "What's your villain origin story? Everyone has one. Mine involves a buffet."
- "You have to eat one meal every day for a year. Wrong answers only."
- "I've decided we're arguing about something trivial. Pick the topic."
- "What conspiracy theory do you *almost* believe?"
- "Describe yourself as a weather forecast."
- "What would your last text say if you dropped your phone in the sea right now?"
- "Be honest: how feral is your camera roll?"
The other sixteen
The rest live where they're most useful — inside the games. Hot Takes, Finish the Sentence, and the More Likely deck are, functionally, openers with a scoring system.
Because that's the real advice: the best opener isn't a line, it's a *format*. A question with options gets answered; a blank box gets postponed. If writing openers isn't your sport, send the quiz instead — it asks ten questions for you and scores the answers.
Play it, don't read it.
