Why we built a game library instead of another algorithm.

Every dating app is good at the same thing now: showing you somebody plausible. That problem is broadly solved.
What none of them solved is the next six weeks. You match, you exchange four messages, and one of you stops replying — not out of rudeness, but because there was nothing to go on. "How's your day" is what people write when they have no other information.
So we didn't build another algorithm. We built about forty games you play with one person, where neither of you sees the result until you've both answered.
The interesting part isn't the score at the end. It's that being wrong about somebody is more interesting than agreeing with them. When you guess what they'd pick and miss, that's a conversation. When you both pick the same thing, that's a fact.
We think the second six weeks matter more than the first six minutes, and almost nothing in the category is built for them.
Play it, don't read it.
